Thank you for supporting VPA by attending Book Reports of Destiny!

Here is our Show Program!

Book Reports of Destiny Auditions

VPA is excited to announce auditions for Book Reports of Destiny for 4th-8th grade.

Please review the Rehearsal/Production schedule here. Please note: if we go past the number of roles in the play, we will potentially double cast some or all of the roles. If that happens, the schedule will change a little bit to accommodate two casts.

Putting on a theatrical production is a lot of work and a labor of love and teamwork. In order to put on a high quality performance and provide our families with a great experience, it's important that we are all doing our part as best we can, including committing to coming to all scheduled rehearsals unless previous arrangements have been made. Thank you for your understanding!

Auditions - IN PERSON on January 9, 3:45-5:45, Sherwood Middle School Auditorium

  1. Complete this registration form by Monday, January 8.

  2. Prepare a monologue that is approximately one-minute long. It’s okay if it’s a little shorter. But do your best to find one that is around one-minute. If you are not sure how to get a monologue, you can find monologues for kids here, here, here, here, and here

  3. Your monologue should be memorized if possible. During your audition, we will be looking for Stage Presence (comfortable and confident onstage), Voice (volume, diction, tone, pitch), and Character (telling the story).

  4. Please sign up for an audition time slot here

Callbacks - January 11

Thursday, 1/11/23 from 3:45 PM to 5:45 PM at Sherwood Middle School. At callbacks students will be given small sections of the script to read together. Students will be notified if they need to attend the callbacks. Not all students will be called back. But not to worry! Everyone who auditions gets a role! We use the monologues and callbacks to determine who is the best fit for each character.

Rehearsals and Production Week - January 16-March 2

Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 3:45-5:45 PM beginning January 16 at Sherwood Middle School.

Tech Week (technical and dress rehearsals will be Monday, February 26-Thursday February 29.

Performances will be March 1-2, 2023.**

**If the number of kids who audition exceeds the number of roles in the play, we may double cast some or all of the roles. If that happens, performances will be February 29-March 2.

Tuition & Volunteer Requirements

Tuition for the production will be $150. This helps us cover costumes, make-up, scripts, production rights, and more. We do believe that theatre is for everyone! So if this will be a hardship for you, scholarships are available. Please email and ask.

Each production is run almost entirely by volunteers. It's a whole lot of fun but a whole lot of work, and every piece of the puzzle is necessary and important.  It takes a village, as they say, and theater productions are no different. We love our volunteers and couldn’t do it without you. Each family must volunteer at least 8 hours per student for this production, or you may opt out by paying $80 in addition to tuition. Volunteer opportunities include chaperone, costumes, props, house help, set-up, tear-down, etc. There is something for everyone!

There are several key roles in our Production Team that are open. These Production Team roles are essential to the show and require a bigger commitment and/or specific skill set. If you have some applicable skills, are looking for a deeper level of involvement, hope to make friends yourself, and want to be part of something pretty amazing, consider joining our team! One of these roles would cover all of your volunteer hours. Because these jobs go above and beyond the volunteer hour requirement, they also come with a tuition reduction. Please reach out to us if you are interested in any of the following. For roles with an * some experience preferred.

  • Technical Director*

  • House Manager

  • Assistant Box Office Manager

  • Sound/Light design and programing

  • Set design/construction*

  • Props Master

  • Volunteer Coordinator

  • Stage Crew Lead

Health & Safety/Absences

VPA is committed to the health and safety of our students and volunteers. If you are too sick for school you are too sick for rehearsal. If you will be out sick, please notify us as soon as possible at theatre@vpafoundation.org.

We understand that students will occasionally have conflicts--a sporting event, orthodontist appointment, etc. But we have a limited amount of time to rehearse, and we need every minute. So we ask that you have no more than two conflicts during the rehearsal window and no conflicts during Tech Week.

If you are absent due to illness, we will communicate with you on a case-by-case basis to determine the best plan for moving forward and trying to keep the student in the cast.

How do I audition?

Auditions can be scary for everyone, especially if you’ve never done it before or are not sure what to do.

We’ve prepared some tips and useful information to help you do your best and enjoy the experience.
