We’ve received applications for $9480 in grants, including Archer Glen’s My Oregon Report production, Sheet music for Choral programs, Young Audience Artists in Residence program, Public Speaking residency, and two requests for sound system equipment.  We will be awarding 2 $1000 scholarships, and we have raised about half of what we need if we were to fill all requests ($5490 as of May 7).  Many donations add up to big contributions.  You can make a difference!

Spring concert – you don’t want to miss it!

The spring VPA concert reads more like a SHOW, with a cast of characters and story line infused with choral performances, and dancing.

You’ll hear favorite songs from many eras with a slant on how music and entertainment has evolved over the years.  The Sherwood Children’s Chorus, Notables and Footnotes choirs and the Sherwood Chorale will present songs from movies, television, musical theatre, radio and the internet.

You’ll hear a medley from Wicked, see dance numbers from A Chorus Line, and perhaps you’ll enjoy recalling Blackbird by the Beatles, or Africa by Toto.  Maybe you’ll be surprised to see a current pop chart medley complete with “SING OFF” style choreography done by middle school girls.  It will certainly be an evening of non-stop entertainment as we present “A Life Time of Entertainment” a Choral Show by the VPA choirs.

This IS a show for the whole family.  Bring your friends, tell your neighbors!   Buy your tickets online, and reserve your seat in advance for the same price as at the door. This concert helps fund the mission of the VPA to bring performing arts to the city of Sherwood in the community and schools.  Please buy your tickets today!

Spring VPA happenings

It’s been a busy time for the Voices for the Performing Arts! We are currently gearing up for our annual Spring Benefit Concert on May 18 and 19th at 7:30pm in the Sherwood High School PAC. This year’s event will feature our choirs, a big band and Dave Sweeney in a format more akin to a theatrical performance. The show will transport you to the 1940’s and back with a tribute to the music from those significant eras and a nod to the different modes of communicating music: from theater to radio, albums, television and more. This show will have a little bit of something for everyone. We hope you will come support the arts and enjoy the show. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased right here on the website (see Tickets)…… (more…)

$10,000 in Ten: We Still Need Your Help!

We are at/near the end of our $10,000 in 10 days,  and are a bit short of our goal . If you were thinking of donating, or encouraging a business to donate, but haven’t yet there’s still time.

  • So far we have raised $ $3,350.
  • Last year we gave 3 $1000 scholarships, and $3920 in grants
    • –$720 Happily Ever After public speaking artist in residency,
    • $2000 My Oregon Report Archer Glen,
    • $1200 district choir festival.
  • The year before we gave $7840 in grants and $2000 in scholarships.

Clearly our donations dictate how much we can award, and $10,000 really needs to be our goal. Can you help? Donate today to keep arts alive in Sherwood!
