HISTORY OF PROGRAM
Voices for the Performing Arts began offering a strings program in the fall of 2011. This community based program serves elementary through high school aged children at beginning, intermediate and advanced levels for violin, viola, cello and bass instruments.
The program includes 45-75 minute class per week for students interested in playing violin, viola, cello or bass. Classes are tuition based and set by ability level. This is an excellent opportunity for your child to experience the joy of playing in a group while learning the techniques and skills involved in playing a string instrument. Music is included with tuition, and instruments can be rented for a very minimal cost through local area music stores. A parent is needed at the first class, and the student should come with the instrument. No music stand is necessary at weekly classes. When registering, please order a polo shirt, as these will be used in performances.
Classes meet weekly on Wednesdays afterschool at Laurel Ridge Middle School, and run from mid September through May with two recitals (December & June) and a few other optional but encouraged performances such as October 11th and February 13th.
Currently, we welcome high school aged youth as well as adults, with string orchestra experience, to be volunteer assistants in our program under the supervision of our director, who is a well qualified, educated and experienced teacher. We also welcome volunteer piano accompanists for the Advanced Orchestra.
